Forex – Kamala Harris is under pressure to deliver a strong performance in next week’s debate with Donald Trump after polls showed her momentum in the presidential race may be fading, the FT reported.
Tuesday night’s contest in Philadelphia will be the first between Harris and Trump, and likely the last: No other debates between the two rivals vying for the White House are scheduled before the November vote.
Both campaigns are aware that this contest could be a new turning point in a 2024 race that has already seen a series of sudden turns, starting with Joe Biden’s disastrous June debate against Trump, followed by a dramatic blowup in his re-election bid.
Harris will be in the spotlight more because she is less well-known to American voters than Trump. Harris’ lead has slipped slightly in recent weeks to 2.9 percentage points, according to the FT’s national poll tracker, suggesting she is not getting an extra boost from the Democratic convention in Chicago. A closely followed national New York Times-Siena poll released on Sunday showed Trump ahead by 1 percentage point, effectively a tie.
A CBS News/YouGov poll also showed the races neck and neck in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
